Warren County
High-risk Lyme region
Why it matters here

The Adirondack region has a tick problem

Warren County and the surrounding Lake George and Saratoga area sit in one of New York’s higher-incidence zones for Lyme disease. The earlier a tick or rash is identified, the better the outcome — for people and for pets.

Lyme disease

Carried by black-legged (deer) ticks, common throughout the Adirondacks. Early antibiotic treatment is highly effective — but only if caught early.

Babesiosis

An increasingly common tick-borne parasite in the Northeast. Symptoms can take 1–9 weeks to appear, making early documentation important.

Pets get bitten too

Dogs and cats spend time in the same brush and tall grass — and ticks hide easily in fur. Pet owners are often the last to notice a bite.

How it works

Three steps, no download

Built for the whole household

TickDetect isn’t just for people

Ticks don’t discriminate by species. If your dog or cat spends time outdoors in the Adirondacks, they’re just as exposed as you are — and harder to check, thanks to fur.

What to know about ticks

A quick reference on tick types, the diseases they carry, what to do after a bite, and what to document — for both people and pets.

The black-legged (deer) tick is the most common carrier of Lyme disease in this region. You may also encounter the American dog tick, lone star tick, and groundhog tick — each carries different risks. TickDetect identifies the species in your photo and flags which diseases it’s known to carry.

Lyme disease, Babesiosis, and Anaplasmosis are the most common in the Adirondack region. Less common but more serious: Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Powassan virus. Symptoms can take days to weeks to appear, so documenting the bite right away matters.

Use fine-tipped tweezers, grasp close to the skin, and pull straight up — don’t twist. Never use petroleum jelly, nail polish, or heat to remove a tick. Clean the area with rubbing alcohol or soap and water, then save the tick in a sealed bag in case testing is needed.

The classic sign is an expanding ring rash (erythema migrans) appearing 3–30 days after a bite. Not every Lyme rash is a perfect bullseye — some appear as a uniformly red, expanding patch. Any expanding rash near a bite site warrants prompt medical evaluation.

Fur makes ticks harder to spot. Focus on ears, neck, underbelly, armpits, and between toes — the same areas a vet would check first. Use TickDetect’s hold-to-scan mode to capture multiple angles while gently parting the fur, then bring the report to your vet.

Note the date of the bite, how long the tick was attached (if known), the bite location, species if identifiable, and any symptoms — fever, fatigue, joint pain, or rash. TickDetect’s PDF report captures the scan image, AI findings, and confidence level in one document you can bring to an appointment.
